David Hernandez is a visual artist from Mexico who has resided in Baton Rouge, LA since 2013. His artwork originates in his passion for his Native Mexican roots. Many of David’s paintings recreate Mayan and Aztec cultural symbols (i.e. statues, hieroglyphs), people, and places. He also enjoys drawing portraits of people from his hometown, and has had many drawn portraits commissioned.
Although David has loved drawing since childhood, his style began to take shape during his seven years in Philadelphia, PA, where he developed a newfound appreciation of his cultural roots. David’s work has been exhibited in Mexico and Pennsylvania, where he has also left his mark on numerous public and private murals. He has also given back to his community through teaching middle and high school art classes in rural Mexico for two years. David now lives in Baton Rouge with his wife and daughter, where he continues to create new works and teach classes in his studio.
